Hey, Calvary Fremont –
Today is not a New Day in a New Year – it’s just another day in another year. You may think it’s a new day, but it won’t take you too long to realize it’s really just another day.
If you get out of bed at 8:30 AM, by 9:00 AM, you’ll know it’s just another day and not a new day. Breakfast needs to be made, arguments among the kids need to be settled, arguments with your spouse need to be avoided, the laundry needs to be folded, the car needs an oil change. Armies are still marching, and bombs are still falling, and people are still killing one another. Yep – it’s just another day.
Someone, somewhere, convinced us that Time holds some sort of promise. We vaguely hope that when the calendar turns the corner into the next year, things somehow get reset. For some reason we believe that what wasn’t possible on December 31 will become possible on January 1. Yet in our heart of hearts we know that’s just a pipedream.
What is new when everything remains same? Time is overrated. Time changes nothing. Time has no active ingredients; Time has no healing properties. When your child cuts her arm, you say, “It’ll heal in Time.” But we know full well that Time isn’t healing the arm – the God-given regenerative capacity of the human body is the active agent.
Time doesn’t hold hope – God holds hope. Paul says in Philippians 2:13 that God is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. Embrace the promise of God.
Time doesn’t hold hope – God holds hope. Today and every day will be a New Day if you’re trusting in God. Today and every day will just be another day if you’re not trusting in God. Time has no active ingredients or healing powers. In 2024, may God be at work in you every day, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. May every day be a New Day for you.
Be blessed and stay healthy and follow Jesus – Pastor Tim
